Reporting to the Chief Pilot, pilots will operate during the wildfire season and fulfill the following tasks: Responsible for bombing run assessments and coordinating air tanker activity around active wildfires Operate assigned aircraft in accordance with FPL’s Company Operations Manual and Standard Operating Procedures Perform all key job duties and any other assigned by the Flight Operations Management team from time to time Adhere to instructions issued by officers of the Department of Natural Resources on fire suppression or instructions from the base manager when assigned to aerial application projects Complete required pre-flight and post-flight paperwork in a timely and thorough manner Report all items requiring maintenance on the aircraft as soon as possible Responsible for the cleanliness of the aircraft at all times Successful candidates will be expected to work in a team environment during long hours of standby throughout the forest fire season. Assigned pilots can expect to fly between 70 and 130 hours per season depending on the Fire Weather Index levels and any unforeseen circumstances. Re-positioning to other bases of operation may be required throughout the season, including short term fire suppression support to other Canadian provinces. Ideal candidates will be elite multitaskers who understand fire behavior and suppression tactics, demonstrate a high level of effective communication, discipline, sound decision-making skills, a willingness to learn, and work in a team. QUALIFICATIONS The successful candidate must: Possess a Commercial Pilot License - Fixed wing and Have obtained at least 3000hrs of Pilot in Command (PIC), 500hrs turbine and 500hrs multi engine. Have a valid IFR Previous experience in role or familiarity in aerial suppression operations will be an asset qualification, but not required. Experience in a Piper Aerostar, Cessna Caravan, or aircraft equipped with a Garmin G1000NXI is an asset. Preference will be given to candidates having experience with turbine engines and low altitude operations like aerial application or fire suppression.
